We offer a wide range of impact
wrenches to help meet your industrial fastening
needs. Impact wrenches differ basically
from screwdrivers and nutrunners in the
method by which they apply torque to the
fastener. Screwdrivers and nutrunners have
high torque motors which deliver torque
directly to the fastener until air is shut
off or a limiting clutch in the tool functions.
The operator must resist the tendency of
the tool to rotate in the opposite direction.
Two
types of impact wrenches
We offer two types of impact wrenches-
Standard and Torque Control. Both types
can be found in the Impact Wrench section
of our website, or by clicking the link
to that section here: impact
wrenches main.
Standard
impact wrenches
The
output of standard impact wrenches depends
solely on the rated capacity of the tool,
the pressure and volume of air entering
the tool, and the length of time the tool
is kept on the fastener. Maximum output
of the tool can be limited by controlling
the air entering the tool or by introducing
flexible elements between the spindle of
the tool and the fastener to absorb some
of the impact blow. These methods are fairly
effective for impact wrenches, but torque
control tools are recommended when bolt
torques must be held within close tolerances.
Torque
control impact wrenches
Torque
control impact wrenches have built in mechanisms
which sense the torque developed in the
fastener and automatically stop the wrench
motor when the torque reaches a predetermined
value. Each size of torque control impact
wrench can be adjusted to deliver any torque
within it's range. These tools provide a
more exacting control of fastener tightness
than is obtainable with any other type of
impact wrench.
About
torque range accuracy
It
must be understood that in using the stated
torque ranges to choose an impact, at the
lowest torque recommended the tool is slightly
under-applied but it is, and can be, used
very successfully at this level when high
speed is desired and / or the tool is to
be used on various sizes of fasteners. Also,
at the highest torque recommended, the tool
may be slightly over-applied, but will cover
this application with a longer impacting
time.
